Hi there... I found your blog from the link at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prince_Vladimir_%28film%29

I'm not quite sure where to ask this, so I thought I'd try over here. Is there any chance of Prince Vladimir being released on DVD with English subtitles? Most people here (I live in Canada, but it's the same in Europe and parts of the US too) are far more accepting of subtitles than people in Russia - in fact, most prefer subtitles in foreign films to English dubbing. If you look at the various English animation news websites, there's been a fair amount of interest in Prince Vladimir because it looks like an excellent example of traditional animation (a lot of people are sick of 3D), so I'd imagine that there would be a market.

I don't know of course, but I just can't imagine that it can be that expensive to put subtitles on a DVD, and by doing that they could widen their market beyond Russia. Even if it's not available in any stores in English-speaking countries, many people buy their films online and would be able to order it.

Anyway, I was just wondering if you knew whether this option is being considered by whoever owns the film - after all, what's the point of having an English-language version of the website and then not making the film available to English-speakers? Seems a bit odd I think... and it's such a beautiful-looking film... :\

Belated Happy Birthday, Andrei!! Glad to have you back. Now that Virginia is back, think I'll have a tough time to post the first comment....damn!!

I was also thinking of asking you the same thing about the release of "Prince Vladimir" dvd (with English subtitles), for a long long time. Any chances of getting it online?? I'm really keen to see all the mesmerising artwork done by you, Grigory and others come alive in the movie!

Regards

By the way, if Prince Vladimir is released in a Los Angeles theatre before the end of 2006 (it only has to be ONE theatre), it would become eligible to be nominated for the Oscar for Best Animated Feature Film. I think it stands a relatively good chance of being nominated, due to its excellent artwork and different subject matter. So far it looks like there will be around 16 eligible films and 5 nominations:
